ABOUT ARTWORK +
Since the beginning of his career, Bjarne Melgaard’s art has been full of desire and fearful longings staged somewhere in between fiction and reality. His raw, expressionistic paintings explore themes of discrimination, racism, sadomasochistic homosexuality, drugs, self-destruction, and death – and often incorporate provocative phrases with a confessional quality, revealing desires, fears, violence, and personal anxieties. Melgaard has been described as one of Norway's most important artists, and his works have been collected by major museums such as the MoMA in New York, the MOCA in Los Angeles, and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. This drawing is unique, and has been used in later Melgaard lithographies ("Window" # 1, 2 & 3).
