ABOUT ARTWORK +
Californian artist Thaddeus Strode (1964) creates complex, multi-layered images which often portrays a fictionalized landscape inhabited by shipwrecked freaks, bikini girls, sea monsters, and other creatures. It moves between high and low culture, graffiti and advertisement, fairy tales and myths. Strode combines his painting with drawing, spray and collage, and uses text and writing as an artistic medium. A "disrespectful" use of paint and canvas, gives his pictures a somewhat “dirty” quality. Strode’s works can formally be linked to the painting tradition of the West Coast.
